The state of American Health, how we got there and how we can change it.

Dr. Matossian is a board-certified Gastroenterologist, who served Lake and Mendocino Counties since 1988. After graduating from Wesleyan University, in Connecticut, studied Chemistry and attended Medical School at Penn State University. Dr. Matossian completed Medical Residency at Georgetown University and did Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Maryland, in Baltimore. Dr. Matossian ran the most cost-effective private Colonoscopy Center in Northern California. He opened the First Rural Ukiah Clinic offering medical support to Liver Transplant patients for CA Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

His PASSION is patient advocacy & continues to provide excellent gastroenterology care at the VA Hospital here in Reno, Nevada.

Mary Matossian became fascinated with the Science behind a Life free of weight gain, Inflammation & chronic disease!

After years of suffering from Metabolic Syndrome: High B/P, High Cholesterol & High Blood Glucose & Weight gain, she discovered the Whole food, Plant-based diet.

What she discovered is how quickly Blood Values improve with minor changes in Food Choices! Health is Happiness

Mary has a BS in Nursing from the University of San Francisco and a BA in Economics from Temple University in Philadelphia.

She has been in the Healthcare Industry for 20+ years and

Worked as a discharge nurse and patient educator at a Surgery Center, an Endoscopy Center and A Busy Gastroenterology Practice, in Ukiah.

Meatonomics - David Simon

Did you know that a Big Mac's real cost is $11? How come McDonald's can still make money by selling it for $4? Who is paying the rest of $7? Come to this talk and find it out! A renowned author and speaker David Simon will come to Reno during Vegan Chef Challenge and uncover the economics of meat industry - Meatonomics.
David is a lawyer and advocate for sustainable consumption. He works as general counsel for a healthcare company and serves on the board of the APRL Fund, a non-profit dedicated to protecting animals. David received his B.A. from U.C. Berkeley and his J.D. from the University of Southern California. In addition to his book Meatonomics, he is also the author of New Millennium Law Dictionary, a full-length legal dictionary. He lives near South Lake Tahoe with his partner, artist Tania Marie, and their two cats and a rabbit.
Since this book was published in 2013, David was featured in movie Cowspiracy in 2014, and again featured in movie What The Health in 2017. Also in 2017, he was invited by Voiceless (an animal protection organization in Australia) to speak at 7 locations in Australia. He organizes his own vegan group Tahoe Herbivore in South Lake Tahoe.
